Fall is my FAVORITE season; I look forward to it every year. I love the color, smells, and the clothes.
I live in California, so our fall is not very cold. We can get away with bare legs and arms with temperatures in the high 60’s. But once in awhile it gets chilly, and that’s when I bring out my favorite fall essentials to create a stylish fall outfit.
Let’s review what are the three fall essentials that will make you fall outfit 10x more stylish.
A Cute Beanie
No fall wardrobe is complete without a cute beanie. It’s stylish, keeps you warm, and comes in so many variations that you’re bound to find one that fits your personal style.
I personally gravitate toward neutral shades so I can easily pair them with different outfits. The beanie I’m wearing in this look is from Target—and no, I couldn’t find it online. It was a $3 gem tucked into those bins at the front of the store. If you shop at Target, you know exactly what I mean.
Depending on your definition of “cute,” look for a beanie you can see yourself grabbing on the go or using to complete a fall ensemble. It could be a slouchy boyfriend style or a playful one with a big pom-pom on top, just like mine.
Now, try picturing this fall outfit without the beanie. Still as stylish? I didn’t think so.
A Stylish Coat
The next must have fall essential you need a stylish coat! Other than the obvious reason for needing a coat, stylish coat can complete an outfit.
Instead of layering sweaters, wear a coat. When shopping for a stylish coat make sure you pay attention to the color, fabric, and length.
If you’re investing in a coat and plan to wear it for longer than a year purchase a stylish coat in a neutral color. Look for black, gray, camel or dark blue. A neutral coat will work with every outfit, and a high-quality coat is well worth the money.
Next detail to consider is the fabric. A wool coat is your best option because it keeps you warm and a very durable. But if you live in an area with consistent rain then a water-resistant coat would be better than a wool coat.
The third point to consider is coat length. A coat that ends just below the thickest part of your thigh is the most flattering silhouette—and if you’re petite like me, this length won’t make you look any shorter.
Beyond those three main points, I also pay close attention to the details. I’m drawn to stylish coats with detachable hoods and stand collars—they add both function and flair.
